I gladly say good-bye to you, President Bush – the candidate I supported the first time I was able to vote, the candidate who demonstrated the values of the Republican Party.
I voted for you in 2000, inspired by your proclaimed commitment to education. I put my trust in you after 9/11, hoping that you would protect our country and that for which we stand.
But you immediately cut funding for the most vulnerable – women and children who are victims of domestic violence, our own communities’ terrorism. You didn’t fund “No Child Left Behind” and abandoned the reason I believed in you as a leader for the future. You didn’t put our money where your mouth was.
So I am glad to see you take your version of family values and fiscal responsibility far away from the White House. I am glad to see an end to a nationwide abandonment of women and families. And I pray for the safety for you and your family that you did not provide to me and mine.

I am happy to see you go and can only hope that Obama will make huge positive changes in the next four years to undo even a little of the damage that your government has done.
